World Championship Recap
I dropped the ball on giving a rundown of the tourney down at Duke a few weeks ago, so here’s a quick synopsis:
- We started slow, playing terribly against SMU and lost 14-12, falling short in a comeback bid after spotting them an 11-0 halftime lead.
- We took out our frustration on Yale, beating them 35-0 to ensure we’d make it out of the round robin and into the round of 16.
- Thanks to our 1-1 record, we only had a 9 seed in the round of 16. We easily beat the 8 seed, NYU, 27-7 and then were able to call it a day.
- Day 2 found us matched up in the quarterfinals with the no. 1 seed, London Business School. We led 3-0 at halftime, but they equalized shortly into the second half and then scored the tie-breaking try with only 3 minutes left to knock us out, 8-3. London made the finals only to fall to Smurfit, the business school at the University College Dublin. And that’s that. No world championship for the Rhinos.
Here we are after the NYU game with our lone cheerleader. She wasn’t too happy about posing with us. Click to see the larger image.

Also, now that the club leadership is transitioning, I’ve got the lucky task of updating the team’s webpage. I haven’t had a chance to get to it yet, but be sure to bookmark it for future reference: Rhino Rugby
